Magwell Skins are essentially decal stickers that require the user to install on both sides of their AR-15 lower receiver. However, in order to achieve a proper installation, it is absolutely necessary to thoroughly clean and prep the surface. A clean gun makes for a clean install.
Clean the Lower Receiver
We recommend using a gun-specific degreaser, such as Froglube Solvent or Gun Scrubber, and scrub the surface with a brush. Next, hit the gun with rubbing alcohol to ensure that all moisture and debris are gone. Wipe with a lint-free cloth and you're ready to go! If your receiver is brand new, clean it twice as gun parts come freshly lubed from the factory and may require a more thorough cleaning process to ensure an oil-free surface.
Peel and Stick
Installing a Magwell Skin is as simple as peeling the decal, placing it on the surface, and pressing down with your fingers. If you need to re-position the piece, peel it off and try again. The vinyl is very forgiving and easy to work with. Use your fingers to set the material in place and work your way from one end to the other, pulling tight to alleviate any wrinkles.. Having a hand squeegee is useful when getting the material to conform to small areas and flat surfaces.
Many of our Magwell Skins match our specialty AR-15 Mag Skins.
Use Heat to Set the Piece
All GunSkins kits are made from heat activated vinyl. In order to properly achieve adhesion the material must be hit with heat from a heat gun or blow dryer. Do this for a few minutes, pressing the piece firmly with your hand. Not only will this bond the skin, it will also help conform the material to the shape of your gun, giving you a clean finish.
Once cooled, the gun is ready to go! There's no need to wait for it to "cure". The installation is quick and easy. The Magwell Skin is completely sealed and waterproof. You can clean and lubricate your gun like normal without any worry about the decal peeling off or losing color. There is no compromise when using GunSkins!
