Can GunSkins be used as a rust preventative?

Will wrapping a firearm with a GunSkins wrap prevent rust? Yes, the material is non-porous and 100% waterproof. When properly installed, the vinyl will not allow either water or oxygen to affect the surface of the gun. It will seal and preserve the quality of the metal as it was before application. This is one of the defining properties of the product, protection of the gun, not just from dings and scratches, but also from rusting.

However, GunSkins should not be considered a substitute for rust treatment. If rust has already occurred, we recommend having it treated before installing GunSkins. If left untreated, removing the GunSkins vinyl may take some of the rust flakes with it. If treated, installing GunSkins on the surface will not affect the treatment.
